Avalanche Education Course was created by Oyvind_Henningsen
The Everett Mountaineers offers an AIARE Level One Avalanche Safety course during December 2007. The course is oriented towards backcountry skiers, climbers, scramblers and snowshoers. It includes instruction in avalanche awareness and avoidance, hazard evaluation, traveling in avalanche terrain, and avalanche rescue. Special focus on decision making in avalanche terrain. If you have any questions please e-mail me at telemarkski@comcast.net. Further details on the web site

The second picture has a nice long hangfire all around the bowl. Would hate to unsuspectingly step into that deathtrap.
Gotta like the shooting crack in the first picture.
I recommend Avy classes if you are even thinking about it that price is great for all the instruction.
The first picture brings back a memory, dropping in to ski check the top of a wind loaded bowl that had the visibility of a glass of milk. Upon entry, shooting fractures as far as the eye can see.
Now with tight sphincter, the careful attempt to get back to where you dropped in.
This happened years ago in the Southback at Crystal, We got there as chair 6 closed due to winds, we beat the patrol to the gate. I was with two other guys, one guy was insistent that he ski the bowl, even after seeing the separation. It took several minutes to talk him out of skiing that bowl. Like a lab looking for a tennis ball, he just could not let it go! And we backtracked all all the way out of the South basin, up the King, at times literally on our hands and knees, the winds were belching to over 50. We skied down a wind affected ridge in trees to safety.
That friend, since that day has buried me to my waist in wind slab, dropped numerous loads of snow on others and because he has no Avy Savy, is no longer invited to be in our tours.
Hope this encourages others to take a course.
Joe

Thanks for input Joe - the pictures are from a very windy and snowy day at Tye Bowl at Stevens Pass last season. Can't get too much closer to the Bulls Eye than that!
