Anyone go to Red Mountain B.C. before and know of a good place to stay? I plan on taking my Mom and brothers for a total of 5 adults and 3 kids and am looking for a reasonable way to do it. This is for the holidays. Also, the brothers and I will be skiing every day, some Backcountry. If you know any places to check out on that front, that'd be awesome, too. Also, places for the women to go with the kids on days they don't ski?

Any help would be appreciated! I just don't know the area and with this many people it is hard to go off the cuff like I would normally do.

Last time I was there I passed out in the back of my buddies truck. I only remember Mt Roberts being a great little escape from the chairs. And Rossland is alot of fun. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Sounds like a fun trip though!

I can't help you with accommodation selections as I can stay with the brother-in-law in Nelson. However, I did squeeze in one day at Red Mountain between three at WhiteWater last March.Because of weather concerns we did not go into the backcountry, as tempting as the descriptions of said destinations were. Mt.Roberts was definitely mentioned. Red Mountain is notorious for its lack of sign age, so it does seem a little bit like the backcountry to first-timers. ::)

Jason, your planned trip reminds me of when my older brother would take me to Red and Whitewater for school holidays. That was 18 years ago. (Wow, it doesn't seem like that long ago!) Anyway, we would stay at the Uplander Hotel which is 5 min. from the ski hill. I don't know what shape that place is in now but it might be worth checking out. There are some nice B&B's in the area that may be more cost effective. Also, in Nelson there is a great Hostel (The Dancing Bear Inn) which has nice private rooms available, is very reasonable and is in downtown Nelson...For skiing, I would recommend trying a combo platter. Even if you choose accommodations in one town, it's not unreasonable to sample a variety of places. Red has Roberts, Record Ridge and Grey Mtn. right off the lifts. Whitewater has Ymir (a great summit), Five Mile Basin, and Evening Ridge, all with minimal effort off the lifts. There is also Kootenay Pass between Salmo and Creston (the highest driveable pass in BC, but not as spectacular as Rogers) with good skiing. And, as you know, a little exploration (even recon up highways) will go a long way. Have a great family vacation! PS- as for the off days, Nelson is one of my favorite Canadian towns...

The Uplander is now The Prestige Rossland...

Check out the Red Shutter Inn pehaps, hillside, and funky. They might have family rooms, I am not sure.

Thanks guys, I'll look into those.

I went to Red years ago and I remember lots of good skiing and powder, but it was only a day trip. Skiing for five days will be awesome!!! If anyone has more to add that'd be great, otherwise, thanks again guys.
