I've seen that occur a few times on Snoqualmie Pass as the clouds roll over Summit West down the west side slope then disappear as it nears the road. I've taken a few photo's...I'll see if I can find one.

Here's a photo taken in June 1980 from the NE Ridge of Golden Horn. The fog is flowing over Mebee Pass at the head of the Methow River.

The Mountaineers have a 1960s movie by Chuck and Marion Hessey that opens with a time-lapse view of clouds flowing over Backbone Ridge taken from Snowfield Peak. The film is a little rough, but it's a cool scene.

Sweet pic Lowell. I love cloud layers. They make you feel like you're a world above.

BTW Chris, the pics change on NWMJ every time you go to the cover page. Maybe that's what you mean?

This happened frequently at my grandmother's timber ranch in the coastal range of Oregon -- seems like it was an evening thing in the summers, as the sun set, and it came over the ridge from the west, heading east. The clouds poured over just like water. I remember it happened a lot and that we watched it together a lot.
From the house you could look down a long valley that filled in with clouds in the mornings too, and they'd sort of ebb and flow, like water, but also like the valley was breathing in these slow monster breaths. I don't remember seeing that site very often, but i'm no morning person. :)

Those are great photos. I have taken a few pics of that effect from the Snoqualomie area but none have captured it quite like those. It often feels like, just a bit after sunrise, some one pulls a plug in the drain down in North Bend and all the clouds get sucked off the pass. Early morning and early season runs at Alpental are a great time and place to observe this.
