Perseids this weekend

The next meteor shower is the Perseids on August 12. This year there’s no moonlight to interfere. The best time to watch is from 11 p.m. August 12 until dawn the next morning. The best direction to watch is wherever your sky is darkest. If you have a dark sky, you may see a meteor once a minute on average. The shower is also active for several days before and after its peak.

Saturday night should be good too.  Great weekend to be out and about.

I think I might go and watch from around Baker somewhere.

Weather forecast is not encouraging for night sky watching this weekend. Even the forecast for mountains east of the crest is saying mostly cloudy at night. Further east into the lowlands may be better, at least per the latest NWS weather guess.

Great star show from Sunrise side of Mt R Friday night. No moon and clear.

Saw a little last night from Ollalie creek campground. Slept in my tent with my head sticking out, then slipped back in just in time before the clouds rolled in and the rain came down about 2 AM. . .
