Interglacier beta? was created by climbinghighest
Does anyone one know if interglacier would be decent for skiing this time of year, or is it a little too late. Thinking of heading there this weekend, if its still in shape. Thanks

Check the Emmons reports in the TR section --- there's still plenty of snow, but the Inter's getting pretty runneled and suncupped in spots. Still, it'd probably be worth the trip. I was coming down with the remains of an overnight pack and my legs were cooked, so it wasn't the easiest skiing...

if I were you, I'd opt for the Flett/Russell area of Rainier for turns right now....the snow isn't terrible on the Inter Glacier, but its definitely past its prime.

I'd second the Flet/Russell suggestion. The Flet headwall was fantastic on Saturday. I did a couple laps in the basin below it and the snow there was fine. I didn't make it out to the Russell (I was solo and having plenty of fun where I was) but it looked pretty good too. There were a few runnels on the flatter sections but nothing bad. The headwall was perfect corn and pretty smooth for about 30 good steep turns worth.
You can skin starting at about 5600 with a few short carries. There's tons of flowers and the tourists stop where the snow starts. I was all alone on a sunny Saturday in the PNW. It was nice.
I'll post a quick TR with pics if I can find some time.

Last week (on the Fourth) it was *very* marginal skiing- quite a few rocks, lots of runnels and weird snow that had little ice bits that made a crackling noise, plus quite a bit of dirt and dust. If the trail was in better shape it might be worth a day trip, but it is really unpleasant going, esp with skis on your pack.
