Bugaboos in July was created by jiri
I'm leaving for a climbing trip to the Bugaboos on Tuesday and I'm trying to decide whether to bring skis. Does anybody know what the snow conditions are this time of year?

been up there a couple of times in late July, always felt like I wanted to ski once up there but never had the heart to pile on skis and boots with climbing gear. certainly better sking potential over and around pigeon spire I am not sure if it is worth it or not depending on your own taste of lugging extra gear around. just my lazy two cents!!!

I probably wouldn't bring skis. Ordinarily, in the interior, there is significant sun-cupping by latter July. Also the runs, themselves aren't terrific at this time of year, most of the snow-covered parts of the glaciers are flat and the steeper sections are usually broken or bare ice.

There has been so much melt in the Bugs since the 70's and 80's. The glacier between Eastpost and Snowpatch/Bugaboo (above the hut- I forget the name at this moment) has probably lost 3/4 of it's former mass. The Bugaboo tongue is much thinned, narrowed and retreated. Probably the best of the skiing would be over by Anniversary. The Vowell Glacier never was that great of run, even in winter, quite flat except for the headwall beneath the Howsers.
