Noctilucent cloud on Tuesday night was created by philfort
Did anyone else see this? While driving to go skiing at 3am, the pitch-black northern sky was lit up by a huge bright wispy cloud. Really weird.
It looks like it made the news:

..although the photos there were probably taken just after sunset instead of just before sunrise. What we saw was much bigger and brighter. It looked like a bright display of northern lights, except it didn't move
One of the coolest things I've seen in the sky.

I saw a cloud like that a bit after dark last night (Wednesday) from a window in my house. It was quite impressive - I yelled to my wife and she agreed that it was quite cool. Thanks for sharing the link - I was wondering how that cloud got high enough to still be catching sunlight (and it sounds like I'm not alone in wondering...).

Thanks for the info on this Phil -- that cloud also caught my eye shortly after 10 p.m. on Tuesday here on the east side of the cascades. I got a couple photos with my cheap camera that I am happy to share via e-mail. None turned out as good as on the TV news site you linked to. When I looked again around 11:30 it seemed to have dimmed considerably from my vantage point. Interesting that you saw it as late as 3 a.m.
Thanks again for the information!

phil, and all.
I saw this out at Alki on Tuesday night too, just as sun was setting. Fantastic! A few of us debated whether it was a noctilucent cloud or remnant sun light. Glad you helped settle our query.
