Hello! & NW Recommendations? was created by Hazey
Hello
I am new to the site, just found it last night. The past couple years i've gotten pretty into backcountry boarding/skiing. Well i'm making my way up from the Sacramento area in California thru OR and WA, and possibly into BC-Canada. I have a house in WA near Mt Rainier so around there is where i'd prefer to stick around
I was just wondering if anyone had any good advice on where to go in either of those places (Washington, Oregon, or British Columbia-Canada). Mostly i'm looking for places in Washington because, like I said, I have a place to stay there and wouldn't have to camp out with my buddy in my car
even though I have no problem with it! I've been reading the trip reports for June and see that Rainier might be a good place to check out, also was thinking of stopping by a few places in Oregon on the way up/down.
I'm new to boarding and skiing in the summer months, so I'm really not sure on what to watch for, i'm assuming I don't have to bring avalanche gear, hah. Any advice you guys/girls can give would be greatly appreciated
Thanks.
PS: I will be boarding the whole time, so avoiding flat's is preferable
I will have poles on me, however my buddy might not, thanks again.

At Rainier, Paradise is a great place to start. You'll need to pay an entrance fee.
Mt. St. Helens is still good; climbing permit needed. Info on the USFS website.
In OR the closest place is Mt. Hood; good short trips right next to the Timberline ski area. Lifts still open there as well.
Read up on spring avy concerns; sun & warm temps create the big slide hazards.
