Memorial day weekend-avy conditions was created by Scotsman
I've got some big plans for the weekend but I'm a little worried about avy conditions. The recent new snow and warming temps has me concerned especially as I tend( and I know it's a big mistake )to get more blase regarding avy's because it 's the spring.
The snow I've encountered recenty seems much less consolidated on all apects than this time last year, or is it just me.
Any avy pros out there got any advice for the coming weekend ?

Hmm, it would seem that your current autosig line contradicts the tone of what you're saying here, no?
((In case this thread lasts a long time but sig line changes ... it had said "Don't think, Just do it!"))
Anyway... a friend told me this morning that the NWAC site had a "special avy advisory" about spring avalanches at higher elevations cause of the "4-10 inches" that fell up there in recent days. But I just went there and they just have their standard generic springtime statement.

I'm not an avy pro, but was out 3 times in the last week and got a good look at the Central Cascades snowpack. At Stevens Pass the conditions were a bit spooky four or five days ago, as days had been warm with a fair bit of rain. Mt. Index also had really punchy snow. In short, the snowpack was rotten.
Monday was much colder, with clear skies Monday night. I was on Long's Pass and Mt. Stuart on Tuesday and found firm snow in the morning at all elevations. Even late in the day there was good consolidated snow on some aspects. It was warm and sunny most of the day with occasional light cloud cover. Lots of melting out was going on during the day. Hope you have good conditions for your trip.
