Twin Sisters beta was created by Scotsman
Anybody got any info regarding access and snow conditions on the Twin Sisters up near Bellingham. I have been there in the summer and scrambled up the West ridge of the North Twin( which must be one of the best Class 4 climbs anywhere) and was wondering if there was enough snow on the north facing bowls to make a rock scrambling /ski descent possible?
thanks
Chris

I skied the N. Face of N. Twin earlier this fall, so there's definitely enough snow at some times of year (which is obvious I guess). It's actually an amazing fall-line run. I've glissaded the same run several times in spring/summer, and it's always been on snow so I'd imagine you won't have any problems (but I don't remember exactly when these trips were). The trick is that there won't be any snow on the (long) approach from the Nooksack. I believe that bringing a mtn bike is the way to go, even if you have to push it all the way up - makes the descent take 1/2 hr instead of forever.

Last time I did it I brought my mtn bike and had to push it uphill a lot of the way(My gear ratio was not low enough for my skill or fitness levle) but I agree that it was a godsend on the way down. I'm hoping one of the locals can confirm enough snow in the north bowl to make it worthwhile. It is a real slog to the west ridge but I like the idea of a rock ridge ascent follwed by a ski descent, followed by a mtn bike descent.
come on you B'hammers, give up the beta!

Lots of snow for several different lines in the Sisters -- including the North sidw of the North Twin.
Here's the real local beta -- check out the key to the gate!

The key used to be available at the Crown Pacific office in Hamilton, and I used to be able to check it out as a past president of the Skagit Alpine club, but that was a while back.
Now, most folks up this-away know a local logger. They seem to be able to get the key. I will try to find out more specifically who has this key, and who can check it out.
