Summer Skiing Base Prep was created by juan
On a recent tour in the N. Cascades last week, I experienced very grabby snow conditions and I also had skin glue stick to my bases. Just got me thinking about a way to prep bases for this time of year's snow and temperatures.
I saw some Swix Galcier Wax that looks to be designed for summer skiing and base protection. Anyone have experience with this? Can anyone share their summer skiing base prep ritual?
Thanks-
Juan

I ride a snowboard, but it shouldn't matter. I use One Ball Jay Summer wax. Either their Black Magic "Summer Slush" or the straight Summer wax. I think both contain graphite. It works well in grabby snow.....

Beyond just wax, you want to give your bases a coarse texture with a brass brush -- the coarse texture reduces suction between the base and the snow that's melting as your skis pass over it. I do half a dozen good, firm passes with a brass brush after each wax job or before a ski day at this time of year and it certainly helps.

Personally I don't do anything, as I like my skis to be stickier during the summer months of skiing, although this film shows (toward the end) how I treat my skis, so I wouldn't listen to me

I'll second that -- Summer Slush snowboard wax slides well on snow at temps to the boiling point, and pretty good on steam. It is black and will make your bases UGLY (unless they are black). Not sure if there is a ski wax equivalent.
Outside of that, high-end base plastics make a much bigger difference in very warm conditions than they do when it is colder. It seems the more zeros the marketing blah-blah contains the better (e.g. Duro-X Sintered Electra 420,000 X, limited factory team special limited edition bases will go fast)
