I know some of you are big fans of older ski films. Found a couple of gems on dvd at King County Library last week. Author/editor/producer is John Jay who is a lower key variation of Warren Miller but with a similar dry, though humorous narration style. Most of the stuff are collections of his work from the 40's through 60's--the golden age. Sorry x-ers, no headbanging soundtrack. More like Percy Faith stuff. It fits well. Titles are under Classic Ski Films or just John Jay and select dvd category. There are six volumes available. I think one could buy all six in a box set. I was able to see v 2 and 3 thus far. For real laughs look at v2 and spot the tele Austrian in mid 50's. Some snippets of tenth army training on Rainier, old Baker stuff, and lots of Stein Eriksen.

I bought my dad the box set last year for Christmas, he got a big kick out of it. Some of the films have repeat segments from others, like the Japanese ski slope football game, but in general they were pretty amusing.

I think REI was selling this boxset last year around Christmastime. You might could have them order it for you if interested.
