Personal Website provider? was created by khyak
I have an account with centurytel that gives me one website that I built using Microsoft frontpage. I hate using frontpage and would like easier software or another website provider, preferably free, that has an easy to use interface. Any recommendations?

What about a Blog? Is there a difference between having a blog and a website?

I look forward to hearing what other people have to say on this topic. It is VERY much on my mind at the moment.
I've hosted alpenglow.org with Yahoo Website Services for several years. Without me really being aware of it, Yahoo deprecated that service and created a new offering called Yahoo Web Hosting. I've had intermittent mail delivery problems with Yahoo Website Services over the years, and I finally got fed up with it last week. So I switched to Yahoo Web Hosting (which is actually cheaper) and things got even worse. I've been unable to receive any emails ("550 relaying denied" errors) for roughly five days now. Yahoo technical support has known about this problem for DAYS, and has still not yet fixed it. True Yahoos!
Avoid Yahoo Web Hosting! I've switched to a different company altogether and I hope things will start getting back to normal soon.
I have my own domain, so I've never gone the free route. But I thought I'd relate my experience anyway--because Yahoo has me so frustrated right now!

The best website designers I work with hand-code their sites in Textpad or Notepad. It's actually quite easy to do, and you have total control over all the code. Unlike with FrontPage, which seems to think it's necessary add a bunch of fluff. (As a side-note, FrontPage is being replaced by "SharePoint Designer").
I create one document which is all of my html tags that I commonly use. It's not as hard as you might think -- if you have a consistent look and feel for your site, you won't be using a huge variety of tags. Then create your pages by copying and pasting those tags from the document into your html file.
As for site hosting... I'm also on the lookout for a good free hosting site that doesn't require any pop-ups and stuff. So far I'm not having any luck.
Spaces.microsoft.com actually allows you to create some nice sites with a fair amount of interactivity (photo albums, etc etc).
A blog is different. Blogs are chronological web logs, not very dynamic at all. Blogging sites like blogspot dot com are pretty minimalistic and don't offer a lot of the things that i like, like photo albums, video-hosting, and so on.
Good luck!

You could also get someone to create a CSS for you, and that's a very simple way to maintain a site.

I've used dreamhost for years. Its not free, something like 100 dollars per year, but I've never had any major problems, and they answer my questions when I have them.
