Terrible news.

The skiing at Crystal was good today, with lots of light, new snow. But it was very windy, and snowing hard. I can easily imagine unstable conditions outside the controlled areas.

Please let us know when more details of the accident appear.

Crappy news. I believe it occurred in the permanently closed Kempers avy path. It warmed slightly today making it an upside down snowpack that is very slide prone.

If it was Kempers, that is notorious for slides. CMP no longer bombs that area because of agreements with MRNP.

In my honest opinion, when conditions get like they are presently, just stay inbounds. There are plenty of goods to be had on this huge resort.

I skiied Wed and Thurs. Inbounds. Had solitude and great snow all day long. Just pick and choose the sweet areas. You won't have to venture into the danger zone.

If you take runs off of Ch 6 and the northwest side of Exterminator, that in itself can give you enough runs to cover a whole day of skiing.

Not to mention Bear Pit, Willies Run, Right Angle, Left of Right Angle, ............etc etc.

Stay safe and stay inboundds until this storm cycle subsides.

I was at crystal yesterday, so sad because at the time I was enjoying such nice goods inbounds and mostly untracked all day in the northback. My group was lapping chair 6 around 3pm getting finished before one last run out northback shuttle. A couple patrol were jumping on the chair and politely called "emergency" in front of me. I didn't think anything of it and just rode off at the top... now my heart aches for how near I was to the vicinity of the accident.
