Riding with video camera -- any advice?

I just bought a small video camera.  It was cheap enough that I won't  cry if it breaks, but I might wimper a little.

Any advice on where to stash it on my person relatively safely whilst riding?  I want to be able to access it quickly.

Any other general advice about shooting video on the snow?  The more you help the better you'll look on You Tube.

thanks

Carry it in a chest pouch...

Go to the thrift store. I found a bag that I just wear around my neck, under my coat like a necklace. Haven't worn it lately though I must say.

I second the chest pouch. Glazer's in Seattle has a nice variety for different sized cameras with good attachment methods so they're comfortable to wear, easy to access quickly (makes for less frustrated models), and do a good job of protecting the camera.

As for tips, the biggest thing in snow is that cameras (still and video) tend to underexpose due to all the white in the frame. So learn to adjust the exposure and play with that a bit to get good images in various types of light. For bonus points learn to do a custom white balance if your camera supports it. Also, it's worth learning how to follow a skier with a smooth pan instead of a swerving and unnerving pan. Look at great ski videos and think about what they did to get the shots.
