awful squeak from snow in binding driving me crazy was created by XCJer
This fall I purchased a pair of Fischer Outtabounds with Black Diamond cable bindings to use with a pair of Garmont Excursion boots all on sale. Last set of days off I used this new set-up on the higher Salmon Ridge logging road below Mt Baker Ski Area's White Salmon Lodge. On the tour out, a squeaky/creaky noise coming from the cable binding became unbearable and was driving me nuts. I'm new to using cable bindings for touring. In the past I used NNN-BC boot and bindings for this kind of tour (snowed-over logging roads). It sounds like the noise is coming from snow under pressure in between the plastic boot and the binding.
Does anyone have any recommendations of how to get rid of this squeak/creak? It's loud and unbearable. Stopping and removing the boot from the binding to clean out snow reduces the noise but does not make it go away and is impractical. Anything I can put on it to make the noise go away?

If it's the binding/boot interface that's the problem, try:
1) wax your boots and bindings with glide wax
2) WD-40/ silicone spray everywhere

Don't spray WD-40 on petroleum products such as rubber or plastic.

An 1/8 inch bevel on the bottom edge (rubber) and on the top edge (plastic) of the sides of the duckbill helps a lot.
Some people I know, spray cooking oil (e.g. Pam ) onto the sides of their all metal bindings -- but this needs to be reapplied frequently.

What kind of BD cable binding?
Keep the WD-40 away from compression springs as well; I think it froze up one of my cartridges and I had to replace it (good G3 waranty but it took a long time).
I use Pam to end the squeaky blues. Wax sounds decent too.

Thanks for all the replies!
For starters I'll spray some Pam and apply glide wax to see if that fixes it. That'll be less invasive to the boot. If that doesn't work then I'll move on to beveling.
Telemack: It's a Black Diamond Riva Z cable binding.
