Mt Hood Lambertson Butte chutes info? was created by johnspeth
Has anyone attempted to ski or otherwise know anything about or anyone who has attempted the chutes on the south side of the Lambertson Butte ridge on Mt Hood?

These chutes, which are a mix of rock and tree chutes on the very steep south facing ridge look so juicy from Pea Gravel Ridge (I think that's the name of the ridge across Newton Creek).  My guess access is very good.   The downside is the southern exposure which *might* be an upside avalanche safety-wise.  I suppose viable routes would need to be carefully scouted from the top and the bottom.

I've never skied the chutes you speak of, but I have looked at them from the top. To access them, park in the lower lot at Meadows by the portable building at the end of the parking lot. Find the trail to Elk Meadow (often there is a snowshoe track to follow) that enters the forest about 30 m east of the portable building, follow the snowshoe track across Newton Cr. to a trail junction at a saddle on the ridge extending south from the butte, follow the crest of the eastern side of the ridge to the summit of the butte. Super easy (as you guessed)--takes my slooooow ass a couple of hours from the car to summit of the butte.

I've never skied the chutes either, but I want to. I agree they look great and I know they must get skied.

FWIW, I've skinned along the top of Gnarl Ridge a few times and, although I didn't look too hard, I never found any obvious entrances. So, there may be a trick to finding the entrances or you may want to climb up them.
