backcountry skiing circa 1963 was created by Andrew Gorohoff
Hey all, I thought you might enjoy these classic ski photos my mother dug up...

From 1958 to 1963 my father (Ken Gorohoff) was a student at the University of Washington and a campus cop. On his rounds as a campus cop he often visited the geology department where he found a number of ski partners (you gotta love the old UW campus cop uniforms!)

Here are some pictures of a trip he took with up to Camp Muir in October 1963 with geology student John Avant, back when skis were heavy and long (he was skiing 210s), AT gear was rare or non-existent.

Check out a taller Mount St Helen's in the background...

Great photo's... I see Adams, but isn't that St Helens in the distance to the right?

Thanks for the comments!

After I posted, I went and looked at a print of Rainier I have on my wall, and realized that that its Adams that is showing, its Mount Hood in the background, and St Helens would be off to the right of the image. Oops.
