Hammerhead Binding Release, Feature?

Hey TAY folks,

Skied Summit West today on some nice packed powder with powder along the edges.

When skiing the "Wild Side" I caught a ski on the small trees sticking out of the snow and "luckily" released from my Hammerhead bindings ( Atomic Kongur ) skis. Actually pulled this maneuver twice! ;D

Is binding release a feature with the Hammerheads? I have not released from a binding in years, but this release was most timely and saved me from injury.

Any thoughts? I have it set to the middle adjustment.

Yes -- sort of -- back when Russell Rainey was still running the company, the mounting video talked about how the long soft spring would allow the boot toe to pull backwards out of the HH toepiece.  The mounting video even recommended trimming down the duckbill on your boots to facilitate this (and make climbing, cramponing and hiking easier)

I made this mod. to my TRace boots and exprienced the "release" feature is a couple of "backwards twisting falls" and in a "face plant / tumble and roll"   Of course this isn't a DIN release and there is no lateral release -- so I expect that 22Designs has -- for liablity reasons -- stopped mentioning this "feature" of the HammerHead.

Thanks for the insight Randy, this "stealth feature" worked (as designed)...

I purchased the Atomics with the Hammerheads late spring '06, I just love the design. The flex in the spring just adds so much to the carving of the skis. I had previously been skiing the Rainey Loop bindings on some Piste Stinx.

How much of a trim is "suggested" on the boot ? I would consider this after purchasing a 2nd pair of boots. Currently have the Scarpa T2
