I second the Rogers Pass suggestion. Its big terrain, so be prepared. But there's lots to do and the snow is amazing.
The Best Western on top of the pass is a good option like Ema said. They like skiers and you can pretty much tour out the back door. You can also connect with other skiers to trade beta or find partners.
There are also a couple of ACC and Parks Canada huts that can be accessed from the highway and seem to be in good alpine terrain. I'm thinking mainly of the Asulkan and Sapphire Col Huts, which I hear are pretty accessible in the right conditions. Maybe not an ideal basecamp, but could be a cool trip. Hopefully someone has additional info on those huts.
Wells Grey got a good mention from a friend. Seems to be pretty popular.
If its too scary at Rogers Pass, check out the Kicking Horse resort in Golden. Last time I was there we more or less had a 4k gondola to ourselves. They have some lift access BC too I think. Its a pretty good plan B. Maybe others have figured that out by now...
Be sure to post a good report for us all to enjoy when you come back!

I enjoyed your trip report on TT, it certainly inspires me to make the time for a spring trip this coming spring break. I wonder how the groups would work with a old man on teleskis and a fake hip......

Thanks CW. I was the oldest (55) of the Wells Grey group. As is often the case for me in the bc, I was in the back of the pack going up and in the front going down. Take a look at the Wells Grey Adventures website as they offer several different options. I know that they accommodate a wide spectrum of skills and age groups.
ps The cabins do not have hot tubs, but they have saunas which more than adequately take care of the body aches and odours.
