SkiBonk Map Mashup... was created by Straka
Hi all,
As we anxiously wait for winter, I found a fun and useful link to check out: www.skibonk.com
It combines data from a number of sources into a graphical view of worldwide skiing conditions depicted on a Google map. Be sure to zoom in as more resorts become visible at smaller scales. You can see which resorts have opened (in green) vs. those that are still closed (in red). Nice integration with webcams, ticket prices, etc. Be sure to check out where Summit East is located... made me chuckle.
Appears to work in Europe as well!
Enjoy,
-Scott

That is a cool little site. I used their error reporting utility to update the location of Summit East and Alpental. I emailed a bit with one of the creators and he said that they are going to be posting a new version next week which will have video from the resorts. It could develope into a cool resource.

Here's a sneak preview of the updated skibonk scheduled for release next week.
It has videos and higher resolution maps in many areas.
beta.weatherbonk.com/ski/
I'd be interested if anyone had any feedback or suggestions.
Regards,
David

David,
Thanks for the sneak preview and kudos for what was obviously a lot of work! Looks like you've made it easy to update resort locations and with a little help from the community that should get sorted out in short order.
Once most of the icons go green when resorts open, would you consider color coding the icon based on new snow totals? Another idea would be to somehow optionally overlay Weather.com's snow forecast map (assuming they're OK w/it) or something similar from NOAA, etc. Maybe also include icons w/pop-up data flags for backcountry telemetry sites?
Thanks again,
-Scott
PS - In retrospect, I hope we're not violating Charles' policy reg. commercial sites on TAY... mea culpa.
