Terrain around MTTA huts was created by chrism
Does anyone care to share experience skiing around the MTTA huts? What's the terrain like? Is it more suited towards cross country (given all the roads) or is it a decent place to get turns? Looks like the elevation doesn't get up past 4700 or so. Are any of the huts reasonable day tours with turn potential? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Chris,
The area around the MTTA huts is excellent tour country, with a few slopes and bigger hills that would yield some satisfying turns. All the huts are definitely day trip distance. I've stayed at the Yurt three times and there are a opportunities near it for turns, but it's definitely more touring than anything else. High Hut might be a different story.
Either way the huts are very nice. They'd be a fun place to take a lunch break on a day tour and I'd definitely recommend staying over at the Yurt if you can get a group to take the whole place -- super fun.

High Hut has some turns on the front and back of the hill it sits atop. An easy day tour.

Thanks for the info. So is there enough terrain to spend a weekend up there?

I have toured up to around all the MTTA huts at one point or another usually with my son when I could pull him in a sled for father son time or a easy tour with freinds who do not ski much to spend the night out in a hut .. That being said I have really not seen "great turning" up there. High Hut has a 300 ft or so slope in front of it but you need enough snow to cover the stumps and logging debrie.
With enough snow there are some turns to be had over beyond copper creek hut. It is a great hut system for what it is and the huts are very well maintained and kept up. I encourage you to go up there to tour around..a fun place. However the terrain is very much more inclined for touring on the logging roads just to be outside and to stay in pleasent huts close to home. It is not in my very humble experience a place to go for turns.
YMMV
