Help..Closest Aug turns to Corvallis? was created by pin!head
Howdy,
Help, I'm looking for my August Turns... What are the closest turns to Corvallis? NorthSister-EMC? TFJ NE-Bowls?.... Any body been to the E.side....you can see these from Sisters OR.
9mos going so far...
ps. Great photos from the slush cup...may let you to some July Slush south of the 45th for next year.

I'd probably head out to Mt Hood myself. Having lived in Corvallis for 20 years (now in Harrisburg) I've found that Mt Hood is as close as the Sisters area due to easy access of I5 and Hwy 26. Plus, TFJ area is usually deviod of snow this time of year.
It's about 2.5 hours to Timberline Lodge. Plus, the approach is usually shorter. You can head to Timberline (though you will have to fight lift served riders) and hit snow a few hundred yards from the parking lot. Heading to the top of Palmer and beyond would yield almost 3000 feet of turns (not bad for August). The Zig Zag glacier to the west is also an option. Plus, you know the snow will be in decent shape because of the resort. It's very possible to get an early start and miss most of the lift skiiers, or to go after 11:30 when most people are off the hill. Snowdome on the north side is also an option (see Jeff Huber's report from Aug), though that's probably a 3.5 hour drive from Corvallis (it's a beautiful hike though).
I was just at Timberline on Aug 12, and the snow was great. I'll be heading up there again (on my back this time) in early September to get turns. It's a great bet when time is short or you don't want a super long approach this time of year. Good luck

Don't count on Snow Dome right now. With the fires on the east side, hwy 35 has been opening and closing quit regularly.
