I was wondering if anyone has been to paradise recently and knows how far you need to hike until you can begin skinning? Also, how is the parking situation? Thanks.

Parking-  can be a challenge and be prepared to park in the lower lot if the visitors center lot is full.

We climbed Rainier last weekend (via the Kautz Glacier) and descended via the Muir Snowfield.  The upper half of the snowfield was in tough shape-  2 foot diameter suncups and chopped up rime type ice.  Not pretty for skiing.  So from the hut to maybe 9K, it'll be a challenge.  It kept getting smoother further down and if it warms up, the skiing from say 9K to Pebble creek could be OK.  The snow line terminates at Pebble Creek.

Someone had skied or boarded quite high on the Ingram Glacier, but I would definitely not recommend that.  It was in bad shape for skiing too.

Here's an idea-  The Turtle Snowfield was almost in as bad of shape as the Muir Snowfield (big suncups made for good climbing, but would be tough to ski).  But below 9400 feet, the snow looked pretty good.  There are many possibilities over there (the area fans out in many directions), but you'll need to start the walk up at Commet Falls (~3400 feet elevation).  Just a thought!
