Lk Eleanor to Grand Park beta? was created by Don_B
off highway 410 near Greenwater and into Grand Park at MRNP from the north

Has anyone been there lately for a tour? Too late for this year? or maybe not with all the snow we've had?

I was up the road about 3 weeks ago and got turned round by snow about 1/4 mile from the trail head.
That snow should be gone since it was shallow.
As far as snowpack now on the trail and GP?

Would this be the Huckleberry Creek trail? If so, would you plan to bushwack up to the lake from the valley floor, or is there a trail directly to the lake? TOPO does not show a direct trail. It looks like logging roads offer closest access to the lake, though I bet they're still snowy at 4K.

Normanclyde, this trip is from the North, turning off hwy 410 about mp47 onto FS 73, going past Huckleberry Creek to Eleanor Creek or as close as snow on the road permits. No trail. Or, if there is one it's too late for this trip. Then its xc skiing, and/or log hopping if the snow is not down to the road level, up to Lk E or staying to the east of it, then roughly along route the Lk Eleanor trail into Grand Park. and beyond if ambitious. Huckleberry Cr parallel but way down below to the east. There are TR's from May 04 and 05 on this site by Charles and others. Open forest and glades make it doable without wacking bushes. Water skiing may be required at Grand Park. It's a beautiful spot to ski into.

I was there May 20. Snow started on FS73 one+ miles from the Lake E trailhead. The snow was continuous to Grand Park except for the little slope down to "Grand Parklet", but seemed especially dirty and lumpy in the forest. Grand Park was in fine shape with ample snowpack. We didn't go beyond GP on this trip. I would guess that now you'd be hiking until close to GP, but it might still have some decent touring. It is a beautiful place, especially when Rainier is out.

I stumbled into Grand Park from the south on a big day hike last June. Even in context of all the amazing vistas in MRNP, the place took my breath away.
