Garmont Megaride Ski-Mode Problem was created by RobM
So I finally splurged on a new pair of boots, got them fitted, remounted my bindings, and took them out for a trial run yesterday. They climbed well, but my last boots climbed well. The real test was, how do they ski? Got to the top of Artist Point/Table Mtn and prepared to ski down. Flipped the boots into ski mode, clicked in and took off. The boots certainly felt more supportive in ski mode, but on the first turn something popped. The left boot wouldn't lock in the more upright of the two forward lean settings. I tried several times to latch it into the upright ski mode setting but every time I flexed forward it would pop out of the latched position and flex easily as if in walk mode. After looking into it, the metal strip in the back of the boot that is actuated by the ski/walk mode lever appears to be too far away from the latching pin so the pin just barely engages the hole in the metal strip. As soon as the boot is flexed, the pin pops out of the hole and disengages the ski mode. Fortunately I was able to lock into the more forward leaning ski mode position and continue on with my day, but I'd like to get this fixed.

Anyone else have or know of this problem? Is there an easy home repair or can you recommend a good local shop that can take care of it?

Thanks!

Hey Rob. I had the same problem (right boot) with my new boots. I tried tightening the plate from the inside of the boot, but it didn't work. I ended up having to send them back (to France!!), where telemark-pyrenees covered all shipping costs and sent me out a new right boot. It is a factory defect in a very simple mechanism. Take them back, or send them back to Garmont. Sorry to hear...

I have had a similar problem that seems to be caused by the canting (? - the circular doohickey with the hex screw in the middle) mechanism on the outside of the boot getting loose. Usaually fixed by tightening it back up.

That's a different problem. I've had that happen also! Maybe I should change boot brands! By the way, I have a warranteed pair of G-ride (red and grey)shells Mondo point 27.5 for sale if anyone's interested.

I haven't run into this problem yet, but I did finally figure out how to get into the more forward leaning position of the two ski modes: instead of putting the boot in ski mode and then flexing till it clicks into place, leave the boot in walk mode, then flex as far forward as you can, and switch into ski mode while the boot is flexed.  This should lock you into the most forward leaning ski position. Doing it the first way will give you a more upright stance.

I don't know if this has any relation to the problem you're having popping out, but it was nice to finally figure out how to get into the more forward leaning position.
