Can't watch this just once..

www.lawrencetrotter.com/MiscPIcs/avalanchepiau.mpeg

I used google to translate the explanation page from French. It has some site photos: translate.google.com/translate?u=http%3A...ev=%2Flanguage_tools

Not sure, but perhaps this snow layer was on a slippery rock base?

Anyone who has taken a ride knows that it is certainly not fun......This guy was fortunate to stay on top. Obviously if the slab, slope and terrain are larger then the consequences can be more serious. I took a 500 foot ride very similar to this one in Alaska, but was in the washing machine, snow trying to pack my mouth etc. I was only buried to my waist and just sprained my shoulder. Not something I want to experience again.

About 12 years ago I was snowboarding by myself on Naches Peak/Chinook Pass in June a couple days after a nice snowfall. I was about 100' from the top, took a jump off of about a 3' drop then the snow all started to slide under me.... I Just started pushing with my hands to stay up and lucky it only moved about 25' and stopped, but it scared the heck out of me. I wouldn't consider it much of an avalanche, but it was enough to make me re-consider the type of solo-backcountry riding on Chinook Pass I was doing. Of course now I'm married and have kids so much of the young-dumb stuff I used to do is behind me.
