Snowmobiler Avalanche Fatality? was created by dberdinka
The NWAC avi-hazard forecast for Wednesday morning makes reference to a fatality over the weekend due to a large snowmachine-induced avalanche. I couldn't find any news references to this.

Anyone have more info?

That's messed up and sad. If the news reporting is correct (big IF) then the unfortunate individual who died got wiped out by someone else's highmark. Usually it's the highmarker who pays the price, and ye shall reap what ye sow. But as a sledder, how are you going to be able to control or anticipate what shenanigans people upslope of you are up to? Skiers have this problem too, but we can at least yell at each other and attempt to make each others' presences known and deliver some choice words if necessary. Over the engine whine, that's not possible for the snomos.

Strong reminder that everyone in the backcountry needs education. Not only on possible hazards, but what constitutes backcountry. I don't know the terrain, but the word 'meadow' in the name would tend to make one less cautious.

It sounds like the one who triggered the slide was young too. A hard thing to live with.
