I was starting to wonder how to fix the boot problem as well. One girl thought they stunk (the one that matters) and my roommate she thougth they smelt like flowers (I am not kidding, she really did). I like the later responce to my boot funk, but I think they stink. I try to dry them out soon as possible, but I am starting to think boot funk will happen no matter what. The question is how bad it will be.

Always willing to try new things I will check out the peet boot driers. See if they make things easier for me.

You might try adding a liberal sprinkling salt. It worked quite well for me in a foul pair of trail running shoes. At the same time I also tried to dry them well.

After the liners are dry (out of the shells) I spray them liberally with an anti-fungal footspray (kills athlete's foot!) - currently Tinactin, but the generic RiteAid one seemed to work just as well. I spray the footbed and liner separately, several times, and let dry. Repeat as needed.

Again, not a perfect solution, but it definitely brings the level down from, say, the odor of decaying meat to something on the order of the smell of hibernating rodents.

JibberD,
I just came across this thread and I am shocked. ???
The hardcore ski-mountaineer that just skied the Chutes in less than ideal conditions is worrying about body odors. >:(
For God's sakes man, are you getting all caring and soft on us? This new relationship of yours is having detremental effects.
You should be relishing the smell off sweat soaked clothes and piss ridden pants.I know I do.
You Americans have taken this cleanlinees thing to extremes, us Euro swine enjoy the smell of festering bacteria as anybody who has skied with me can tell. 8)

There is a shop in kirkland called NW Pro Hockey.
They have special washers to defunctify sports equipment. I haven't found anything that stinks worse than hockey gear and this process works. It also kills any bacteria that can be harmful. It is not the cheapest thing (50$?), but if you gather some people in on the deal it will help with costs.
