Close location of I-90?

Any good ides why WSP closes I-90 at 34 all the time when they really nead to only close at 47?

I think it might depend on where they have the large metal gates at the ramps; I think some of the smaller exits might not have them?

might have to do with wanting to avoiding having lots of motorists stuck in the car for up to three or four hours in an area that is significantly colder/snowier than down by North Bend? I've been stuck before in a highway closure just an exit or two from the pass and I was very glad to have a sleeping bag in my car.<br><br>

When they plan to have the pass closed for many hrs they keep them at North Bend. If its a delay of only an hr or so then they will close it up at 45 or 47. You run into problems with people hold up on the freeway at 47 for numerous hrs such as trash, pee, etc......

Why are they such weenies with I-90 anyhow? It's ridiculous.<br>You almost never see them close SR 2 and it has far worse avy terrain threatening it...WTF?<br><br>Anyone have any thoughts on why this is?

Well, at least 3 avalanches hit I-90 over the weekend, and I don't think any on highway 2...<br>Neither highway seems very "avy prone" to me (compared to, say, Rogers Pass), but I guess you can't argue with reality.
