Where to use snowcat was created by Scotsman
I decided to start a new thread on this topic. See snowmobiles on Skyline ridge for reference.
I have a share in a privately owned snow cat that my company spent the entire summer renovating. It is in tip-top condition now but we don't know where we can legally use it for some cat skiing ???The Forest Service has been no help as they have no policy regarding private snow-cat use. >:(
To take it on snowmobile routes would be too dangerous as a collision at a corner between a big slow snow-cat and a ' biler would be inevitable.

It does not have grooming equipment or a blade on the front.
Has anybody got any ideas?
Anybody that can help me put this to use to get some cat skiing has a reserved seat. ;D

seems like the east side of the north cascades hwy would have large enough radius turns to accomodate a snowcat....but thats not exactly close to seattle.

(i think i remeber the tele festival at Loup-Loup a couple years ago was actually running a snowcat up the N.Cascades Hwy for bc skiers)

perhaps you need something similar to what oversize semi-trucks use on the hwy...have a snowmobile out front with a 'wide load' banner to give oncoming 'bilers a warning ;)

I'd be suprised if many snowmobilers are of a dawn patrol variety...maybe a predawn departure would get you to your destination before you're surrounded by competing traffic.

gotta admit that I'm looking forward to the day that those newer quiet, eco-friendly 4-stroke snomo's are a little more affordable....might just have to pick one up...some of those buggers can do over 100mph, don't belch any blue smoke, and get over 25mpg...

Where is the cat? I assume transporting it long distances is rather difficult, so that plays into the equation.

NC Highway would be a good option, since it is wide. I've also seen pictures of a cat used to access Cloud Cap Inn on Mt Hood. Somewhere along the east side of Chinook Pass could be another option, as I assume motorized snow travel in MRNP is illegal.

I would try somewhere along I-90 that accesses one of the heavily logged areas southeast of Lake Keechelus. I think commercial outfits have used these areas before but I dont think they are currently operating up there. You may run into some sleds, but at least it will be on open terrain in an area they might expect to see a snowcat. That area is in great shape right now too...

Let me know when you go!

Are there any representatives of the Ellensburg X-C Ski Club here? I recall some posts on their Yahoo Groups board, circa 2003, describing snowcatting up to the Boeing Hut. You might talk with them.

What about Twin Lakes up off the Baker Hwy?...

That road (Swamp Creek) is closed to motorized access in the winter. Glacier Creek road is NOT! Grouse Chutes -- yum!!

Don't worry about the snowmobiles -- hang a log off the front and back of your cat and teach 'em some manners. The idea that someone might not be able to travel on the Glacier Creek road because they might cause a hazard to snowmobiles raging out of control is ludicrous. I'd rather have an out-of-control snowmobile hit your cat than a skier or another snowmo traveling in the opposite direction.
