Any advice for squeaky *&^%$# randonee boots? was created by Double E
I've got a pair of Nordica TR9 randonee boots (bought last spring, used, for only 120 bucks). And I can see why the other guy wanted to get rid of them.... they're squeaky as hell!!!! Any advice on how to quiet them down? I've NEVER known ski boots to make this much noise before. Granted, this is probably only my 5th pair of ski boots (and 2nd pair of rando boots) ever. So I don't have much to compare them to. But I've never heard ANY boots make anywhere NEAR this much noise before. Like turning-heads-30-feet-away-after-entering-the-lodge kinda noise! [blush]

Anyway so....

Most people I've talked to have the initial gut reaction to suggest WD40. Thing with that is, tho: it's not the hinge that's squeaking, it's all the areas of contact (a) between the tongue and the body and (b) between the tongue and the side-pieces-whatever-ya-call-them that cover the tongue. A total of about a half a square foot per boot of plastic-plastic contact. So I guess I could coat it all with WD40, and it'd probably quiet it down, but I wonder how many times the WD40 would last, cuz it'd just get all over my hands and clothes when I was taking the boots on/off, etc.... sounds like more trouble and nastiness than it's worth.

I've also thought about taking like 100-grit sandpaper and sanding all the plastic-plastic contact areas in the shin area I mentioned. But I'm sorta having misgivings about doing that kinda thing to ski boots.

I dunno, I'm thinking it might just be time to plop down the money and get a new pair, from this really cool local store that has one of the best return policies in the world... which happens to be having a sale soon too. But at the same time, I wouldn't mind trying to find a way to make these boots work.

Oh and another problem with them.... they're the first pair of ski boots I've ever had (or ever heard about) which give ya blisters. And not on the foot tho. On the inside of my left ankle, about 7 inches up from the sole of my foot, I've been getting these bizarre horizontal-line type blisters (about 2-3 mm tall by 20-40 mm long). Weird, huh? Ever gotten blisters like that? And they're only happening with the left boot, only in that one spot.. inside of the ankle. I've compared and compared and compared the insides of the two boots and I can't for the life of me notice anything different about the left boot that would cause this.

I can hear the replies now ... "IF YOU CAN AFFORD 'EM, JUST GO GET SOME NEW GODDAMN BOOTS ALREADY!!!"

Yeh maybe I should... still wondering if there's just something I'm missing here, though, with either of these issues. ???

ArmorAll should stop the squeaking. It's made for plastics, contains silicone. Petroleum products (like wd-40) are not kind to most plastics.
Might have to have a bootfitter tweak them a bit for the blisters, tho...
OTOH, Sounds to me like you really just want to buy some new boots... go for it

I've had these same boots for years.Had the same noise problem. This was common with a lot of boots throughout the years. The fix for me has been either a silicon product, like Ron mentioned ,or lemon Pledge type.It will let the the boots flex with less resistance and help to keep snow from sticking to them.As for blisters, that can happen with any boot since there are so many variables in fit and foot dim. Good luck X

My buddy, Greg, also has those. They are affectionately called the "Nordica squeakas." (pronouced "nor-dee-ka"). Good luck! His still squeak-not a bad rhythm to follow up the mtn when the going gets tough. You're friends should thank you!
