Freeride heel lifters replacement? was created by Oface
Well I took a pretty decent spill over the weekend at Stevens Pass (inbounds at andromeda face.) Don't worry, I'm fine, but my Fristchi Freerides took a bit of damage. The heel lifter part on one of the bindings (that big black plastic part that locks you into alpine mode,) split in half (I have last year's model.) They actually still lock down, but next time that I'm climbing, I won't have a heel lift. Has anyone replaced these before? I talked to second ascent, and they think that they can fix them, but couldn't get me a replacement part price from the manufacturer due to MLK-day. Do they just screw on? Can I order this part online? I've googled around a bit, but I couldn't find anything.

thanks!

I had to do exactly this, on a pair of older Freerides ('02ish) last year. Here's same thing for 03.
I got mine direct from BD, give them a call, easy to do yourself. I got a price break because I wanted the gray ones and they happened to have a single lying around. They just screw in, with the only complications being what kind of glue might have been in the originals and what kind of glue you trust for your rescrew.
It's too bad these parts are pure plastic, it's an obvious failure waiting to happen, I broke mine just locking down into DH mode by stepping on it with a boot rather than the recommended pole-levering. I keep hoping that Lou Dawson or someone will publish a mod for something like drilling out some thin channels of that part and replacing with a titanium bar or something, or at least for Fritschi to get wise in the future revs.
I remember the first generation Fritschi (the old white one)had metal incorporated into the rear heel lock. Too bad they changed it...Black Diamond will send you a new one, hopefully without a wait.

Thanks for all of the info. I just got the part in the mail today, right in time for the weekend. So can I use the holes that are already in my skis, or should I do some sort of fill/redrill thing (this is my first time doing a fix like this.) Also, it seems from my random googling that white glue is good to seal it up. Is that consistent with people's thinking (like what wolfs alluded to?) Thanks!

"So can I use the holes that are already in my skis, or should I do some sort of fill/redrill thing (this is my first time doing a fix like this.)"
-- The holes should still be okay. On the many (many) dozens (hundreds?) of ski binding holes where I've backed screws out over the years, only several have failed (i.e., stripped) from a single removal/reinstallation of a screw. (Should the screw head just start spinning effortlessly even once it's completely in, then the quick & dirty technique is to try again after inserting a mixture of steel wool & epoxy, although far better to use the inserts specifically designed to address this situation, or just let a shop do it.)
"Also, it seems from my random googling that white glue is good to seal it up."
-- Any random glue for woodworking should be fine for lubricating the screw and then sealing up the hole.
(And yes, the irony is that the heel lockdown interface on the one old pair of original Diamirs I still have kicking around is better than the current plastic-on-plastic design.)
