I've had a chance to watch Snow Flight more carefully and I've published notes about it on my history website. Here are notes about several of Otto Lang's productions:

Snow Flight
(1937 movie)

The Basic Principles of Skiing
(1941 movie)

A Bird of Passage
(1994 autobiography)

A few other tidbits about Otto can be found
here
.

For me, Snow Flight alone is worth the cost of the DVD set. It is the finest ski film made in the Northwest before World War II. It's also one of the few films that survive from the days before ski lifts. Otto Lang was the Northwest's original ski maestro. Professional ski instruction in the Northwest really got started with Otto in 1937, the season after Snow Flight was filmed. If you're a Mt Baker skier, I think you'll enjoy the scenes of Otto skiing pristine slopes near Table Mountain.

The Snorting Elk at Crystal has been playing these DVD's and they are great fun to watch. I may purchase the set.
Joe
