Hammerhead Bindings Question was created by RonL
This is my first season on a pair of these bindings. They are great to ski in but the adjuster coils seem to loosen up when I am skinning uphill. It is simple to just tighten them again but I am curious if others had the same trouble. I am considering getting them set and duct taping them in place. Anyone else have this issue?

I have not had that issue, but I've heard of others having it. I generally adjust them to a point where I can flip the heel throw upside down on the ski and then step into it. You want the cable to just barely stay on with the throw reversed (a sort of touring mode without moving pivots). Then to switch to downhill, just put the throw on the correct way and it should be good and snug. FWIW, I ski in positions 2 & 3.
Thanks, I will try that next time I'm out.

The duct tape trick has been well documented on telemarktips.com -- and was even recommended by Russel himself before he sold to 22Designs.

Another good trick is the "upside down heel throw" Wacko's like me that use the HH in Pos#5 -- can switch modes quickly by using the heel throw "upside down" while skinning up. E.G. instead of engaging the heel throw in the normal manner, point the level straight down and pull the heel throw up so that is nestles in above the ledge. This will keep the boot loosely in the toepiece -- but tensions the cables much less allowing easier skining. I't not as effective as removing the cable guides completely -- but for skining up 1000vft or less it saves time over fiddling with the cable guides.
This is my first season on a pair of these bindings. Great thanks, I will try it with the heel thing down next time and if that doesn't work I am getting out the tape. I have had the setting all the way back the last couple of times out; it was pretty good in deep powder but this weekend, with variable windpacked snow, I started to get curious about some of the other settings.
