I've heard people in Glacier Ski Shop talk about riding sleds to the summit of Baker.

It happens -- the south side of Baker has a wedge cut out of the wilderness area -- snow machines are legal there.

The tip of the wedge is at the summit of Sherman Peak. So if snowmobilers visit the edge of Sherman Crater or the summit of Mt Baker, they're breaking the rules. Garth Ferber and I once turned some snowmobilers away that we encountered on the Coleman Glacier. They claimed they didn't know it was Wilderness.
