New to WA, and seeking advice - I just moved to Olympia. Partly for the skiing. I'm a fairly strong skier, logging roughly 40-50 days a season. Except for 6-10 days a year skiing the West w/ some cat-skiing, all my experience has been inbounds in New England. I want to begin AT skiing. I've registered for a level II course at Baker. My questions is: are the Volkl Explosiv suitable for matching w/ an AT binding; and if so which binding would you recomend for safty/ease of use for a novice? Thanks
Hopefuly I'll be checking into your "partners wanted" section in Jan.

Those skis are certainly appropriate for aggressive charging on the downhill, however they are quite heavy and probabaly "less than ideal" for the uphill. However, if you need a resort setup that is also bc capable I think they would work really well.

As far as bindings, the fritchis (or Naxos, although I haven't tried them yet) will seem the most like your alpine bindings, but they are quite heavy relative to the dynafits. After a few thousand feet of vertical a person can definately start to believe that "light is right".

Any setup will let you have some fun though, and that's what it's all about.
