new Washington Pass weather station was created by Garth_Ferber
The NWAC and the Dept of Transportation got the new Washington Pass weather stations up and running. The wind site is about a half mile north and about a 1000' above of the overlook on a NW/SE trending ridge. The precipitation site is near the overlook but somewhat hidden in the trees.

The equipment for both systems is all new and replaces the ~25 year old system that wasn't working so well lately.

The wind site has wind speed, wind direction, air temperature, relative humidity.

The precipitation site has air temperature, relative humidity, propane heated precipitation gage, total snow depth, precipitation gage temperature.

The precipitation gage temperature should be much warmer than the air temperature when the precipitation gage is heating. The DOT has not lit the gage yet this season.

We are accessing the 2 stations via radio from the top of Flagg Mountain above Mazama.

Now we will hope it works fine all winter!

That's great Garth. But to me the most useful site in WA is Paradise. I use that data all the time to make trip decisions. What do you need from the public to get it back up? Do you want us to complain to the NPS?

That'll be cool to have a nice high elevation station, particularly during the spring and fall. The frustrating part will be in the winter, we'll probably see a few days where that station is the only sub-32 one, but alas, heaven will be a 30 mile (from Diablo side) stinky snomo ride away.
Some guidance or a united front for how to solicit NPS about this Paradise station impasse would be good. We might need to cook our own though, Garth might not be at liberty.

A new weather station is nice.

But i still hope that one day there will be a new weather station at Mount Rainier. For example at Indian Henrys or St. Andrews Park. Paradise is on the south and Sunrise on the east side but there is no weather station for the west side of Rainier >
