Given that is also went from 0 to 349 inches of snow depth -- I think there must be an equipment problem. (perhaps due to too much rain!)

I'm no expert weatherman (nor do I play one on TV) but in my experience in reviewing telemetry readings I have learned to to disregard any anomalies in the readings as irregularities or idiosyncrasies of the sensing units. I look for logical believability in the readings before I start to trust them.

Mark and Kenny were replacing the precipitation gage that day and caused the extra readings while working on it.

Regarding the snow depth, the snow depth sensors can have trouble producing a reading when there is no snow and instead bushes. Sometimes the instrument puts out the so-called offset instead, which is the distance the sensor is above the ground. So the reading may not make much sense until there is actually snow cover. The Baker snow depth instrument offset is currently at 349 inches.

The snow depth sensors are a sonic device on the tower, pointed toward the ground, that emit a little clicking noise and then listen for the reflection of the sound off the surface below. The time it takes for the noise to return determines how far away the surface is and consequently how deep the snow is.

:)
