End of your TAY streak? was created by Telemon
September is probably the cruelest month of the year for those of us wishing to extend our personal streaks; this year being particuliarly mean. I am curious to find out how many were not able to find any turns and will now be starting a new streak. I am also interested in knowing where people went to keep their turns all year status. I did not see many local trail reports other than mixed reviews from Muir. My little patch of white was found near the Coleman Pinnacle, on Mt.Baker's NE side.

Hoping for better in October

Bob Wiebe

I'm still claiming I don't care about streaks...but I skied at Heliotrope early in the month: fresh snow and good skiing but a surplus of crevasses and generally moderate slopes.

Looks to me like excellent braille skiing on Muir this afternoon for the motivated enthusiast; snowing an inch or more per hour in lowering temps. Wonder if anyone's up there right now.

I lost my streak, but it was because of priorities. I may go streaking when the bars close tonight, though.

Three Septembers ago I was crawling through some brush, skis tied to my pack, headed toward an improbale patch of snarling ice, all so I could say that I had skied in September. I had skied every month for over five years, but this was the first time I was out, not for the skiing, but for the talking about skiing on the Internet. I was there to keep the streak alive. Or, rather, I wasn't there at all -- in my mind I was rehearsing not the line I was going to ski, but the yabber I was going to make about having done so. It didn't feel right.

I shed my skis, finished the climb, glissaded the patch, and picked my skis up on the way back to the car. I have skied every month since -- with the exception of a couple of Septembers.

Don't get me wrong. Nothing against streaks. Some of my best friends are streakers, and the rest of you make perfect strangers. But I don't ski in order to say that I skied. That would take me out of the mountains.

my streak of approximately four and a half years expired yesterday. I considered heading up towards muir in the driving rain to scratch out what turns I could before hightailing it back to the car...but the enthusaism just wasn't there for me this year.

For the duration of my streak I always managed to easily find 'good' turns year round....august trips to the flett for old but smooth corn, trips to muir in late september to catch the first snow of the year...that magical day in october when you can finally ski al the way back to paradise...but this year I didn't have the free time during the handfull of days there were good conditions in september, and after logging an august ski day that was on a 70vf patch of snow just to keep the streak alive, I felt it was time to retire.

I certainly had other weekends available to play, but most of my time was spent out at the ocean...just a change in priorities....spending time learning the subleties of turning on my longboard has (maybe just temporarily) replaced the need for late season turns on my teleboards.

Congrats to all those who found turns in september (regardless if they were on new snow or rock-studded, dust-covered, sun-cupped neve).

See y'all out there in the weeks to come when winter ,hopefully, arrives.

The Palmer snowfield on Mt Hood. Honestly, we probably got some of the easiest turns of anyone who skied in the PNW this month.
