I grew up skiing at Pajarito; back in those days I think a family season pass was $95. I remember days of powder so deep I couldn't get up after falling. We had a 1950's Willys and when it broke on the trip back to town we coasted the whole way from the ski area to town. The Valle Grande (the huge caldera behind Pajarito) had a change in status from private ownership to a sort of protected trust in the last few years. I think you can now go on loooong kick and glide trips in there (15 miles in diameter, 8500 feet, surrounded by 10-11 thousand foot high mountains). I have heard that alternate descents from Sante Fe's top lift to the ski area road through "Big Teseque" are popular, with a car shuttle back up. Have a great time, the skiing there is fantastic.

I lived in the Land of Enchanment for 5 years.....great skiing! No crowds, great snow, even on low snow years and laid back people. Taos is sublime......Mostly north facing, 9200 ft base, top is 12,400 and it has really steep chutes. Taos is definitely one of the best ski areas in the country when you consider all the factors that truly matter. After storms, stashes are good for weeks. Cycling the Ridge provides many options and like Alta and Deer Valley, no boards! The local hill at Los Alamos is great, especially if they get dumped on. I go back for visit every other season......Taos is truly a unique ski experience.
