Heel blister help? was created by lapaz25
Alright, unusual topic, but I'm getting fed up with the insane, predictable, odd "heel" blisters I get when touring. They aren't on the back of my heal, but rather on each side under the ankle bone (both feet). This occurred in my old boots, as well as my new ones, even with my custom Thermalfit liners and only takes about 500 vt ft to create them!

Rumor has it there is something I can attach to my liners to help this (oh, and no I can't tighten the instep on the boot any more to keep the heel down). Any ideas to permanently help this situation?

Thanks!
~Lara

I have solved that dilemma by gluing strategically located pieces of neoprene on the outside of my boot liners (so as to hold the achilles area above my heel tighter) and then leaving the boot shell uppers VERY loose during the upclimb so that any heel lift movement happens between the liner and the shell rather than the liner and the foot.
Of course if you want the job done right, make an appointment with

500 vf? Ouch!

As Ron notes, there are a number of approaches that may help, most intended to either a) prevent the foot from moving up and down in the liner or b) reduce pressure on the problem spots.

Neoprene doughnuts strategically placed, a "puffier" thermoflex liner (are these Garmonts?), very thin and smooth socks, buckling very loose or very tight over the instep, and reshaping of the heel pocket by heat or grinding are all possible solutions.

Mates is

too, if you can't resolve it by yourself.

Thanks, Greg L. Yeah, I've tried thin socks, thick socks, sock liners, loose boots, tight boots,etc-the whole shebang! I have brand new, "puffy" Thermoflex liners (in a Scarpa), but my heel definitely moves up and down against it no matter what I do. I've contacted Jim for help...

I had the same problem up untill last season
. Blisters on the outside of my heels >
. You don't really need to go to someone to get it fixed
. I just picked up a few of the foam "doughnuts" that they supply at the ski shops. They come in different thickness' and you can chop them up as you need.

Aaron
