ADVICE NEEDED was created by AlmostAspen
I call this time of the year the MUST RIDE TIME! This is the time when I need to play in the snow. My question is where should I go on MNT. Rainer? I was thinking the Murr Snowfield. Anyone want to do a little guiding and give me some advice? Thanks and if you want to join you know what to do. Im heading down Friday and coming back Sunday or Monday depend on the snow.

Thanks
Mike Nyquist
YGLL

The Muir Snowfield is always a good option this time of year if you are not wanting to go on any of the glaciers. Just be aware that if you make the hike up there don't expect great conditions. The snowfield tends to get suncups and gets torn up by all the bootracks.

I know what you mean about NEEDING to find snow. There's a group of us doing the Sahale Glacier on Sahale Peak in NCNP on Saturday. It's a full day, but should be fun. See the TR on TAY from a few weeks ago. There are also other options like the Flett Glacier on Rainier-see most recent TR on home page.

~Lara

check the past trip reports on the Flett and Rusell glaciers. Most portions of the Flett have few if any crevasses...a particularly good spot to yoyo is the snow between Echo and Observation Rocks.

Access to that side of the mountain is through the town of Wilkeson on up to the Mowich Lake trailhead.

The only folks you're bound to run into up there are die-hards from TAY and perhaps a Seattle Mtneers group doing and 'ice climbing' class on the Flett headwall, otherwise, its far less of the zoo that is muir on a week.

Have fun!
