It will be 2 years for me this November. I like having a streak, but it's getting a little harder to motivate for really bad conditions. But I hope to keep it going.

[quote author=markharf Fortunately, I don't actually ski with the intent of maintaining a streak; it just seems like a reasonable way to spend my time. [/quote]
Well said Mark. I agree....

I agree with David, we're fortunate to be living in what I believe Lowell calls the "Golden Age of Steep Skiing" when guys like Sky and Jason are laying down epic first descents on a regular basis. Years from now we'll look back and realize we were witnessing history being made . . .

I don't exactly disagree with David, but I think his comments are a non-sequitur in the context of how this thread was started. I totally agree that the recent pace of first descents is impressive, and that the people doing them should be recognized for their imagination, skill, and guts. In fact I think the new issue of NW Mountaineering Journal does just that. I am not, however, the one writing the ski streak article, and I was just asking my year-round skiing question because it is something I have been curious about and I thought I could help out the fellow writing the article. If anyone wants to write an article about first descent streaks, there is nothing to stop them from doing so.

Although skiing consecutive months does not necessarily involve the level of skiing skills, nor the level of objective hazards, of skiing first descents, it does involve a number of other backcountry skills and a long-term committment to achieving a goal. In addition, it is a goal which is accessible to older skiers, and to those with families who may not choose to expose themselves to higher levels of objective hazards. Year-round skiing also, as I have discovered, promotes a really enjoyable sense of community among a group of people who love the snowy mountains. Reading through the bios of year-round skiers on this site suggests to me that most people who set a goal to have a consecutive months ski streak do so for internal, personal reasons, and not for competitive reasons or to impress others. Having met and skied with a number of these skiers, this view has been confirmed for me, and so I think it is great that the general (non-backcountry) skiing community will have a chance to learn about some of these skiers and what motivates them.

Added: Mark, sure, start nudging.

It's all about good times in the mountains, I'm on month nineteen. I feel very fortunate to have come across a group of people that have the fortitude to say; screw it, life's to short, I'm going skiing at least once a month just because it's great fun!
That said, I think first decents and steep lines are awesome!

I agree with Charles and JW. Blessed that I can hike, ski and breathe fresh air. Today- I contemplated skiing year round and I am not sure what will come of that thinking?!
10 months for me-we can talk in 2 months.
As far as other thread busting skiing streaks- I have 32 consecutive years of skiing with at least one piece of duct tape on my clothing.
