Cougar Lake was created by md2020
I've been eyeing this Pk 6624 just south of Cougar Lake. I noticed it from Crystal Mountain several weeks ago and from Natches Peak earlier this month. It looks to have a 1000' northwest slope. Looks really nice. Anyone been there? How hard would it be to get there from Bumping Lake?

I have been eyeing it too. Looks like a giant wide half pipe. There is no trail bridge over the Bumping River, so I have been thinking it would be a nice high tour out of Chinook. Not much gain or loss with lots of short run options enroute. How is the snow holding out that direction? It has been over 2 weeks now since I was down there.
John

ye, that's it. Nice open northwest slope to the summit then vertical on the east side. Beautiful peak. I was thinking a trip out of Chinook too.

We were at Chinook last weekend and there was pretty good coverage above 5000 ft or so. Nice soft butter on top of very firm base. I'm not sure what all this weather has done to it though. I'm going to try to get up there again this weekend.

Hi md2020,
Just surfing away on the net now at this point, headed out to ski momentarily as soon as I am confident the roads are plowed. Question... ever get over to Pt. 6624? I've been still eyeing it . In fact, a winter overnight approach might just be feasable up the American River from the Morse Creek parking on 410. Looks like all kinds of options in the area. Small peak descents, traverses for distance, descent length runs. I am curious to know if you have been over there.
Sincerely,
John

we did a spring trip there from Chinook Pass 2 years ago that basically followed the PCT. That was a long day. The upper part has a pretty steep pitch to it, but that's relative. I think the ski down to the lake out of the bottom of the bowl would be really nice. Steep semi treed slope. There's a big avy slope at the end of the lake the we decended, lots of spring debris. I think you can avoid this coming in from Cougar lake.

Ive eyed that line for years now we had done some studies on getting there and the only two options seem to be following Bumping lake up or heading through Chinook Pass its a very Daring winter ascent but doesnt seem to bad during the spring
