Touring partner for Seattle area? was created by masa
Trying to see if anyone wants to go touring or knows how to connect with people in the Seattle area. I am just getting my AIARE 1 and have no friends that do backcountry, so I have been led here to find a partner. Ive been skiing for most of my life but have no experience touring, and have good overall stamina and fitness. I usually ski alpental, but would be willing to go anywhere withing like 2hrs of the Seattle area.

Hey Leo, I'd be down for a tour sometime! I have an epic pass but down to tour Snoqualmie/Stevens/crystal areas. I'm from just outside of Seattle. I got my level one two seasons ago and have been touring occasionally, gradually easing into terrain. A little snow at the passes already, getting pumped!

I'm also up for some touring. I don't know if there is enough snow anywhere yet, but hopefully soon.

Good morning Masa,  I live in Gold Bar and typically tour Stevens Area.  I have been skiing back country for years and I am always looking for partners.  I don't  care how well you ski just that you really know how to use that beacon and find me. haha  Please message me as the snow falls and I would love to hook up.  For anyone else responding to this thread hit me up as well.

Cheers,

Kendall W.

Hey Masa,

I’m in the same boat as you. Went touring once last season and signed up to take my AIARE class in January. Also looking for partners and will ski wherever! Would love to link up.

Masa and all who are on this thread

I would love to get a good list of people to tour with. I have my level 1 from years ago, I also take the one day rescue course every year as a refresher. I have been backcountry skiing for a long time (20+ years), I am fit and love to ski. Mostly though I just love being in the mountains. We moved to Washington early last year but I have not been able to find a lot of partners yet (young son at home keeping me busy). I did manage to ski a bunch in the Alpental valley last year, as well skiing Mt Baker in May. I am in Issaquah and can ski most any weekend all winter and would be super psyched to find some people for bigger objectives in the spring

Level 1 too and ski down at Crystal since I live in Bonney Lake. Hard to break into a group around here. Have been BC for many years around Crystal and always looking for partners.  Steve

Welcome all. Let's get a trip going when we get enough snow. I did a snowshoe trip from Paradise on Saturday. There are places where you can make some nice turns, but there are lots of sharks also. Until we get more snow, expect damage if you go skiing up there.

Sounds good. Definitely interested, even for some exploratory outings (snowshoes...) to meet people and see new places, till we get enough snow.

Popular thread.  I'm also in Issaquah and moved from CO this summer.  Looking for folks to explore the Snoqualmie area with and open to other places.  AIRE 1 about 8 years ago in RMNP and toured there a lot and other Front Range spots.  I'll likely take a refresher here to better understand the PNW snow pack.  Looking to build fitness for bigger spring and summer days.

We finally got our snow. Looks like the weather will be good on Friday the 17th. I'm heading for the mountains. Anyone want to join? Message me if you do.

Tony and all,
Great idea.  I have been a skier and climber for a long time but work and family has diminished my network somewhat.  If any of you need a partner contact me!

Give me a shout if you want to go at Crystal area. A1 for many years, don't believe in taking unnecessary risks.  Steve

Hi all,

Thinking of going touring in the Alpental Valley tomorrow. Nothing crazy, probably head toward Source Lake for the classic first tour of the year to check out the slopes around there and if things look really solid, maybe heading toward Great Scott Bowl / Pineapple Pass.

Still need to solidify my kid's daycare schedule tomorrow, but let me know if you're interested! Would love to meet new people and start a solid backcountry group.

Cheers,
Phil

I just got my AAIRE 1 this season. I have not been skiing my entire life like others, but I'm pretty fit and come from a climbing background. Almost every weekend is great, and I get 10 sick days so I have 10 weekdays available too. :)

Anyone on this thread interested in a casual tour Friday (January 21) at Snoqualmie Pass? Based on the forecast it should be a nice day weatherwise even if the snow conditions aren’t great. Exact location and timing TBD, let me know if you are interested.

Hey all,

I just moved to the area and am looking for partners, so I also wanted to throw my hat in the ring here. I was chatting with a guy on the chair lift the other day who recommended this site as a good resource.

I've been touring for 7 or 8 years and have taken AIRIE 1. I am living in North Bend, so mostly looking to get out in the Snoqualmie area for now but I'm also down to drive. Definitely want to ski some volcanoes this spring. I've got some flexibility to get out for tours on weekdays, so would be awesome to find others close to Snoqualmie Pass.

I just enjoy getting outside so I'm usually up for anything. I'm pretty fit so I'm good with long days with lots of vertical, but I'm also happy to just take it slow and relax.

Andrew

Is anyone looking to get out tomorrow?  Everyone I know is out of town. Still pretty green to touring, but have my AVY 1 and like to think I’m not stupid (Dunning Kruger Effect?  I hope not).  Coming from Seattle and willing to drive a bit to find a good tour.  Heard Snow lake is still in good shape, but I imagine the access route will be a shitshow tomorrow.  Fully vax’ed and boosted. Do we need to say that now?

Conrad, I’d take you up on that. Is that starting at the Annette Lake Trail Head?  If no one else is interested, we can switch over to DM and figure out details. -Jim

I was thinking of starting at hyak.  Annette trailhead is an option too though.

I’m good with either. You don’t need the Summit Uphill permit to go from Hyak, do you?  I do not have that.

I don't believe so.  We would be on the cold creek Nordic trail and not going up into the hyak area.
