First time to the Big Mountain. Arrived yesterday afternoon to blue bird skies. The cookie crumbled a little different today. More on that in a bit. My multi day lift ticket was $40/day (70 and over). My wife’s were $80/day (65 - 69). Nice! The lodges are old school and a little run down, but functional. OK, on to skiing. Woke this morning to snow with a snow level right at the base. A little damp. And, as per reputation, fogged in on top, but much drier snow. As soon as the backside opened, we headed there as the bottom elevation is 1,000 feet higher than the front side. And, there was very little fog. Snowed all day. The coverage is excellent and snow quality much better than the home mountain . Skied a lot of black diamond packed pow bumps today and some very nice glades where the snow was piling up. So much nicer than the last couple months of icy groomers at home. Ahhh, my happy place. A little clearer tomorrow which will allow a lot more exploration. There is some really nice challenging and steep terrain here. A bit more crowded than expected with peak 5 minute lift lines on the backside that went away around noon.
