Ski Short Report - Not yesterday! Hard freeze meant totally icy nasty including what must have been difficult cat grooming conditions - ouch! The first few runs down LS - OUCH! Nasty! Especially with marginal foggy vis. Valley better enough to repeat and as the sun (filtered rays of heat) worked the slopes things improved. Light early crowd - duh? More grey fuzz clouds than yesterday early! But things improved and by late morning all was heaven! Looked like Crystal didnt expect anyone showing up today based on lift line setup.
Ski Report Wordy Version - Arrived fashionably early after a easy drive through multiple Elk sightings. Light early crowd at CHex, but lots more early cars than yesterday. As noted the early morning was way firmer (might I say ICY!) and the grooming was not Beaver Creek quality - plus early the vis was a little iffy. Things improved, sun rays started softening slopes in the Valley (which the Valley had the best smooth grooming I noticed). Winter cold feeling early and even though we hoped for the big warm - that did happen till around noon - which was the time we bailed out again. Never down sized any warm weather gear today - dang! Crowd showed up today (weather forecast?). Got typical 10am hour rush, big lines on FQex, noticeable lines on GVex and even REX. As usual things improved lift line wise by noon and that was the time that softness heaven was showing up pretty much everywhere. Wimped out and did not do CH6 for its last day of the season - so sad! Did see some folks making turns in PB that looked nice. Very nice day for my second Sunday and #1 had a very good strong first weekend day of the season for her. Did MIFB a number of times and the bumps down the center are starting to get impressive - even for me! All in all a very fun day, even with the bigger crowd. Both of us had fun skiing with the Ferkinator and his bride at different times today!
Other - Easy early drive up, lots of single Elk in the Greenwater area both sides. Drive down was sort of painful due to folks that only speed (sort of) on the long straight passing areas. Pay lot looked full when we left, bottom third of A lot was open parking for all, B lot was almost full - ouch!, C lot was also pretty full and some cars in D. So the crowd showed up today and it was noticeable - especially all the "great" downhill skiers that zip past all the not so great downhill skiers - hate that! Big day, Fun day! Have a great week and hopefully Friday will be just the right kind of Goldilocks weather.
PS Day 40 for #1! Big season for her!

We started skiing about 10 and missed all the early morning ice. There were some runs that were firm here and there but they softened up quickly. Everything skied well, well everything that we skied anyway. GV. Snorting Elk, Lucky Shot and especially Powder Bowl. MIFB, our opinion, was not that great. Too many slushy piles separated by big scraped off spots and it did not improve as the day went on. We skied till 2;30 and it was good right up until the end, although the cloud bank returned and the light got a bit flat for the last half hour. Some of the flats did get sticky but almost all of the runs that we skied were very nice. We did our usual bob and weave around the mountain to avoid lift lines, but the lift lines were never really bad. I broke out the Hawaiian shirt after our lunch break. It was that warm. Another beer on the patio at the Natchez Tavern on the way home.
