It was warm from the start and the high haze cleared to blue skies as the lifts opened. The snow was a frozen wasteland. Valley Bowl was unskiable frozen junk (and never improved), Iceberg a smooth un-edgable side slide. We chattered around the icecube covered groomers waiting for the sun to soften things. Finally at 10:30, the full-sun Frontside softened. We grabbed 5 fast Memorial Forest in some smooth unskied lines. At 11:30 it was too heavy and gloppy to be fun. And… That was it. The north facing aspects never softened, the softening places were an inch or two of soft over brutal rutted bumps. Also at 11:30, the flats and traverses were getting sticky. Powder Bowl looked junky and only saw 3 takers all day that wished they were somewhere else. One misguided foray into Bear Pits was a mix of soft junk over hard junk. By noon everything was sticky and a last T2B out The Gap was throw-you-on-your-face sticky from Snorting Elk to Lower E. Never skied Lower E’s bumps sticky before. An early departure, but a long day for an hour of fun.
