TAY was down yesterday, so here's a day-late report:
When our friends bailed early this morning over concerns with the conditions, I figured this would bode well for us. More times than not, we get unexpected good conditions when they do that. Not so today.Drove through Enumclaw into a snow storm that lasted all the way to the mountain, with snow on the road most of the way. The Crystal sign just outside the ‘Claw said Crystal was sold out. Huh? They hadn’t changed the sign from yesterday as it was quickly evident when we got to our own private mountain. We expected poor snow conditions, but what we weren’t prepared for was some pretty nice skiing in places, but frigid temps and visibility-obscuring fog. The grooming on Lucky Shot was good and held up most of the day with an inch or two new on top. Ferkberg was IceBergery. GV Right would have skied nicely if you could see as there was 4 – 6 inches of snow blown in there and the crunchy stuff underneath was surprisingly edgeable. It just needed to get skied in a little, but with no visibility, I was the only one doing it from time to time. Down lower, GV Chairline and Ann’s Run were both very nice and kept us lapping GV and suffering the blind groomer on top until we hit visibility halfway down. Mid-morning, we took a break in Campbell Basin lodge to warm up (no food was acknowledged) and then hit Cisco back to REX. Also, very good. Being encouraged by Cisco, I headed into Bear Pits. A huge mistake. It’s going to take a lot of time before that’s skiable again. At 12:30, a nice sucker hole opened up in GV, but it was gone after one run. We pulled the plug 4K short of the reference CD vert ending a nice string of high vert days. My hands finally warmed up typing this.
